I hear that in some parts of Canada they are big enough to carry small children, of course this may be a slight exageration..

ha ha, only a slight exaggeration! Black flies can often be worse as they are tiny…I’ve had them fly in my mouth, around my eyes and nose…a real nuisance! again…thankfully I don’t have them often around my place!

We get sand flies here, they are tiny but have large appetites

the black flies and mosquitoes have very large appetites as well…but at least we can see them and swat them away, sand flies not so much.
