north bay

Went with family to take my granddaughter to the park, which is to the right of this area but I thought it was interesting how deserted the beach area looked…it was a warm night, definitely swimming weather?

I don’t post photos of my grandchildren, but was taking a photo of something else and I thought I would share this very cool finger painting by my grand daughter, before she was two.   I love this, but then I’m the grand mother so biased…

I was looking through some of the photos I’ve taken and came across this one…love this tree with it’s gnarly branches

I took this photo last fall, in October some time…we always have over the top winds in October.  This tree had a large base but it just couldn’t withstand the intensity of the wind that day.

Last week, Wed. April 27th, I stopped at the waterfront to take a few photos of the ice…it has finally begun to move.  If you look closely you can see the ice is beginning to crystallize as well.   A bit slow this year but then this winter has been unusual to say the least…

all in a row…

If you know me at all you know I love trees, especially “naked trees”…without leaves of course!   This was taken while driving on the way home from Florida…fyi…I wasn’t driving!   A crisp cold morning, brrrr.  There is a bit of dirty windshield showing up on the right hand side but I really liked this so excuse the dirt!

Someone questioned me about the lack of snow…we have lots, but I’ve not been able to venture out to take photos , so for now I will post photos I’ve taken in the past few years. Some I’ve posted before, some I haven’t…

Chief Commanda I

I’ve posted photos of the Chief Commanda previously…it was launched in 1946, and served Lake Nipissing until 1975 when it was replaced by Cheif Commanda II.  Chief I is now a restaurant on the waterfront.

sunset & silhouettes…

This is the sunset I posted last week, taken as I approached the beach…I like the silhouette of the trees on either side.

crazy clouds

If you visit my blog at all you will know I’m fascinated by clouds…this photo was taken Oct. 10th., last day of the Market.   It was difficult to make the photo presentable as the sun was very bright.  I cropped most of it out as I wanted the cloud formation to be the focal…

This is has been the subject of most of my photo for the past three years…every Saturday and Wednesday.   Along with photos of the vendors and booths.  The North Bay Farmers’ Market.

Hope to see you again…

I’ve been absent for awhile now, life happens…I hope to be around now!

I’m trying out a new theme, but not sure it is what I want as I can’t seem to make the photos larger to fill more of the page?  Will be playing around for the next little while so if you come by and see something unusual it is because I’m playing.

When I went out a couple of weeks ago it was just as the sun had set and the sky was awash with the most vibrant colors, I’d gotten out of the habit of keeping my camera in my vehicle but my trusty iPhone did the trick I think…

where is spring?

How has your spring been so far?  Ours hasn’t arrived yet…check out our snow banks!   As I am writing this it is snowing, in the morning the temperature is supposed to be -26F or -14C with the wind chill!   …could be worse right?

bowing to the ground…

I never get tired of looking at these trees…they amaze me, their root system must reach a great distance.  We have very strong winds in this area and I’m always expecting to drive by and find one or more of these old fellows toppled over.  This photo was taken a few weeks before Christmas…

more sunsets…

It is interesting how I’ve not seen the sunset for months and recently I’ve been able to capture it three times..awesome!   This one wasn’t as intense as some, but then it was just setting, I find the colors more vibrant a short while after the setting…didn’t stay around to see what happened that night as I wasn’t dressed warm enough!

sunset.2. dec.20.2014This photo was taken a few weeks ago right after a warmers spell…you can see the ridges of ice that built up due to the winds and then colder temperatures…makes for dangerous snowmobiling and walking…

hard to believe…

This has been a most unusual December for me…Christmas arrived in the blink of an eye!   Enjoy your time regardless of how or if you celebrate.    By the way, it is raining again and is supposed to continue through tomorrow…snow will be gone again!

...merry.christmas.2013...

sunset anyone…

Took this photo with my iPhone 6 last night…began using the phone Friday evening so don’t know what I think about it yet…made sure I found a solid clip on case as I have a tendency to drop my phone.   One shattered screen is enough!   As you can see we have snow again…it is cold today so it just might stay for a while this time!

“freezing fog”…

Photo was taken from my back deck(gray-scale)…it is somewhat foggy outside…which is creating “freezing fog”…http://www.theweatherprediction.com/habyhints/359/    As you can see, the needles on this tree are weighted down…

and so it begins…

On Tuesday evening I went with my son Michael, daughter-in-law Melissa and grand-baby Paige to see the Christmas Train.   The Ontario Northland Railway decorates a short train, the engine, two cars and a caboose…children can have a few minutes with Santa, as well as a big white bear.  It is even possible for the children to get on board a couple of the cars, one is set up as Santa’s Workshop and the other is the engine.  Paige is not quite ten months old yet so we didn’t venture on to the train, nor did we visit with Santa as she is not sure if she likes him just yet!  The Fire Department had a truck on hand as well for the children to climb on…kids love the Fire Trucks!   Two local businesses, Cecil’s Eatery and Tim Horton’s provided free hot chocolate for all.   It was a fun event for children and parents alike!   This train stops at a number of communities in the area for about an hour and a half.    I was surprised how amazingly crowded it was as the wind was bitterly cold.

Below you see the busy side of the train…couldn’t get too close!   I’ve not done much in the way of photographs at night so this was very different for me.   Will have to do more…

christmas.train.dec.2.2014This was the opposite side of the train, it was decorated just the same but much easier to really see the train…I have to admit though my hands were frozen so I didn’t take many photos…

christmas.train.4.dec.2.2014A few decorations…

christmas.train.2.dec.2.2014A different angle of the “other side” of the train…still can’t see the caboose…there is a chain link fence on this side, which doesn’t allow me to get back far enough to see it all…

christmas.train.5.dec.2.2014This is a full view of the train as we were leaving…the train station is elevated and there is a chain link fence in front of the train…couldn’t get close to take a better shot.

It snowed all day Sunday…on and off since…not heavy but steady, is expected to continue the rest of the week!   As you can see I didn’t get around to putting away the table and chairs…

hanging in there…

I took this photo last week…while the flowers aren’t anything special I couldn’t resist as these hardy flowers are holding on regardless of the onset of fall!   Having said that two days later we had snow, it is gone now but was cold for a few days…not sure how these flowers fared?

contrasting views…

Both these photos were taken while driving to Sudbury, (not me of course) 1.5 hrs west of North Bay…definitly a contrast between the two views!

bowing down to fall…

When I looked at these leaves that is exactly the thought that came to mind…pretty colors, we didn’t have much red to speak of at least not that I saw, it was mostly yellows and oranges.  While pretty they aren’t my favorite fall leave colors, but the combo here is striking!

do you know?

I like this bush with the red berries on it but have to admit I don’t know what it is…do you?  When I look closely it looks as though there was a flower at the end.   Is this a seed pod?

bubbles, bubbles and more bubbles!

When I go for my walks I like to walk to the lake…there are many access for me to use but they don’t differ much in appearance.   There were waves washing up on the shore so I took a few photos of them.   check out the bubbles…simplistic yes, but cool.

color…

Fall is upon us here, the changing of the leaves are almost completed…I’ve glimpsed the process but not had much chance to photograph it this season.  How about these for some color?   I love cut flowers in my home, usually have a bouquet of something…right now it is a couple of the pumpkin arrangements, but they are wilting fast.

When I came out of a building here is what I found…this fellow was 25 ft at the most away from me and definitly not afraid!

He was munching on the Crab-apples at the base of the tree, scroll down!

I’ve been around…

I’ve been taking photos since the spring, but they have been different than what I usually take…for the most part the photos have been of veggies, fruit, artisan items and people.   I’m still not happy with my photos of people, but will persevere.

I’ve not posted nor visited much as time was limited for me.   That is coming to an end this week as the North Bay Farmers’ Market last day is this Saturday.   I intend to be around more at least I hope so!  It will be nice to take photos of landscapes, the lake, trees, etc., again.
