learned something…

best of sunset 1.12.13went for my walker later today just in time for the beginning of what ended up being a stunning sunset, saw part of the final performance but wasn’t able to photograph it as I had an appointment but this is one of the photos I managed to get…the sky and sunset colouring is relatively accurate but as you can see the snow is blue…I managed to get the snow close to white in my photo program but then the sunset was way off…so I chose to leave the snow blue…as I’m sure I’ve mentioned before I’m a complete beginner so I did a bit of research and as most of you will know it has to do with the “white balance”…my son lent me his Sony camera to experiment with, his camera has a setting with one for a “whitish scene with high brightness”  which I think should help?  I’ll give it a try and see what happens…

  1. I love this, although at first I thought it was an ocean sunset, you’re so lucky to have such gorgeous scenes to shoot. Thanks for all your encouraging comments on my humble little photo blog Heather, really appreciate them. If you work out the whole white balance thing let me know, because it all just goes straight over my head (as do things like aperture and fstops if I’m honest).

    • hey Davinia, nice to see you. yes I do agree, I’m very lucky…lived lake side for over 30 years combined, my last stint was 20 years and moved away from it in 2010 and have to admit I miss it a great deal!!!

we have had so much rain here in the last couple of days the ice/snow on the lake has water laying it, and it id raining again today, so should try to get more lake shots. you are most welcome Davinia…I really like what you are doing with your photos. once I’ve got the white balance figured out I’ll let you know…it goes over my head as well but I want to see what I can do! the technical aspect of taking photos is new to me…I’m so used to “point and shoot”, but I want to make my photos better so will try!
      talk to you later…
      Cheers
