Screen…
while this photo leaves much to be desired, I liked the way the screen from the lanai was visible…
Another photo taken on the drive home of two of my favorite subjects, clouds and trees…
holding the moon…
Photo taken while driving…of course I wasn’t the driver…
more green with a splash of white…
Someone questioned me about the lack of snow…we have lots, but I’ve not been able to venture out to take photos , so for now I will post photos I’ve taken in the past few years. Some I’ve posted before, some I haven’t…
A belated Merry Christmas to those who celebrate…this photo was taken Christmas night from my daughters balcony. It was taken with my iPhone as I forgot my camera!
Silhouettes and clouds…
sunset & silhouettes…
This is the sunset I posted last week, taken as I approached the beach…I like the silhouette of the trees on either side.
Hope to see you again…
I’ve been absent for awhile now, life happens…I hope to be around now!
I’m trying out a new theme, but not sure it is what I want as I can’t seem to make the photos larger to fill more of the page? Will be playing around for the next little while so if you come by and see something unusual it is because I’m playing.
When I went out a couple of weeks ago it was just as the sun had set and the sky was awash with the most vibrant colors, I’d gotten out of the habit of keeping my camera in my vehicle but my trusty iPhone did the trick I think…
more sunsets…
It is interesting how I’ve not seen the sunset for months and recently I’ve been able to capture it three times..awesome! This one wasn’t as intense as some, but then it was just setting, I find the colors more vibrant a short while after the setting…didn’t stay around to see what happened that night as I wasn’t dressed warm enough!
This photo was taken a few weeks ago right after a warmers spell…you can see the ridges of ice that built up due to the winds and then colder temperatures…makes for dangerous snowmobiling and walking…
sunset anyone…
Took this photo with my iPhone 6 last night…began using the phone Friday evening so don’t know what I think about it yet…made sure I found a solid clip on case as I have a tendency to drop my phone. One shattered screen is enough! As you can see we have snow again…it is cold today so it just might stay for a while this time!
on my way home…
I had lunch with my daughter this afternoon and when done we went to do a bit of Christmas shopping for Paige, my grand-baby…on the way home this is what I was fortunate enough to see!
ominous looking clouds…
this was yesterday around 6:00pm as I was leaving the Market…looked intense, but didn’t really amount to much other than a light rain! Taken with my iPhone
old is new again…
I’ve not taken any photos for a couple of weeks now, which is why I’ve been posting photos I’ve taken in the last year or so…here are three more.
Lake Nipissing facing south west…
Leesburg, Florida, taken a couple of years ago.
Lake Nipissing, facing north along Memorial Drive.
gray scale sunset…
when I take a photo of the sunset, sometimes the colors look right to me and sometimes they don’t…when they don’t I try the grayscale…I rather like it!
bitterly cold wind…
when I went for a walk to day it was overcast, lightly snowing with a bitterly cold north wind…I captured a few photos at one of the access. the white you see in the distance isn’t waves, it is chunks of ice forming in the water…the wind chill factor dropped the temperature cold enough ice is forming in chunks.
strange sky…
yesterday was a strange day, with the most unusual skies…changing from dark and moody to light and fluffy so quickly due to the strong winds!
to Sudbury…
My daughter and I went to Sudbury yesterday, which is about 1.5 hours west of North Bay…the colors are pretty much yellows, browns and rusts now…the beautiful reds are gone! Even at that there isn’t a great deal of color…
full moon…
night before last we had a full moon…I tried to take a shot of the moon before it got completely dark…I took more than I care to say but none were even passable. my first problem was I didn’t know where my tripod was, (I’ve not used it in a few years…) and there was way too much shake in my hands…all the shots were blurry! I let it go and decided to leave it until I could find my tripod…but…once it got dark I could still see the moon shining bright when I looked out my window so I went out and tried again…this is what I captured…
its a “sundog”…
had to drive to Huntsville last night, approximately an hour and 15 min. drive and the sky was so unusual…it couldn’t seem to make up its mind what it wanted to do, from one mile/kilometer to the next…anyone who visits knows I love clouds…I captured over 300 shots from my moving vehicle last night, some I’ll post but most I’ll delete…certainly worth effort to have a few!
on the way there…before the skies broke into the shot below…this was on the way there…not sure what that colored section was all about as the sun wasn’t even remotely close by? It rather looks like part of a rainbow, but that is all there was to it and it was only in a specific area during the drive? NOTE: a visitor to my blog explained to me the mini rainbow is called a “sundog”…they are formed when the sun is low on the horizon, either to the left or right of the sun…here is a good explanation…http://weather.thefuntimesguide.com/2009/11/sun_dog.php
drive to Rosseau Market
this past Friday was rather foggy on the drive to Rosseau Market..we leave North Bay at 5:00am so on a cooler morning we often see some fog, but this was more than usual…nothing serious though. fyi…the first two photos were taken from the moving vehicle!
by around 7:00am most of the fog had lifted…
we saw this fellow as we came around a curve…Mr Porcupine…he certainly wasn’t in any hurry to get across the road!
Lake Rosseau…
Every Friday till Labor Day weekend I do the Rosseau Market…on the shores of Lake Rosseau, in the tiny community of Rosseau…it is a beautiful area. The first two photos are cottages, the second is a boat house, the cottage is hidden in the trees!
a bit of B & W
I becoming a big fan of b & w…these are older shots I’ve converted as I’ve not been able to take many photos and the ones I’ve taken I’ve not done anything with yet. I’ll get to them soon I hope. The photo below is cropped as I liked the rather eery look of it this way…believe it or not there is a restaurant/bar behind me, I think I’ve shown photos of before…right on a canal that feeds into to Lake Harris, Leesburg Florida.
this is a shot I took from my vehicle window while driving through Kentucky on my way home last winter…if you are a visitor you will know I’m a huge fan of “naked” trees…
this is one side of Sunset Park point…before all the ice was gone…I thought the b & w made this shot look rather interesting…
angry clouds…
I have to admit I’ve a major weakness for dark, moody, angry looking clouds…I don’t want any storm to accompany them, I only want to watch the clouds. I stopped along the waterfront earlier today as we had such clouds rolling around in the sky, no storm, just fabulous clouds! It is amazing to watch them change before your very eyes…mesmerizing! I’ve not done anything to these photos…this is how the clouds looked…I may try HDR, on these photos another day… for for now this is it.
when I see the lake this calm with clouds like this I always think, “the calm before the storm” I’ll let you know…
to sepia or not to sepia?
here is a not so great photo(in color) of the sunset at Key West…I’ve done it in black & white then tried sepia, which I de-saturated…not sure if I did the desaturation correctly as it looks very much like grey scale, or is this the way it is supposed to look?
this is the grey scale…
this is sepia, without desaturation…I went too far on the first sepia I did…wasn’t sure what to do with it? this one is rather interesting…a warmer tone in comparison….
and this is sepia, completely desaturated…
experimenting with filters…
I was looking through photos for a post and began playing with the different filters available in Photoscape…while this isn’t an extensive software it does offer a few interesting filters…the original photo is below, then in order, water painting, two different swirl filters, reflection filter, embossing filter, with colour added and one of my favourite filters the reverse black & white
moody skies…
I love a moody sky…something about them that has so much character…now don’t get me wrong, I love the clear blue sky with soft, fluffy white clouds as well…each has their appeal to me…
this is of the same island I’ve been showing on and off…this view is south west of where I lived, I would be standing at the far end of the break wall to take this photo…this is of course before the water has been drawn down…some years it is later than others.
another almost naked tree…this tree still has leaves on it today…I can see it out my window…
just after sunset…
haven’t been on a boat of any kind in too many years to count…just after the sunset…west coast of key west
Jade…
here is something a bit different for me…this is Jade, my daughter’s pride and joy! I rarely take photos indoors…I wasn’t happy with the colouring of the photo so I tried black and white…for the last number of years the only photo software I’ve used was Picasa…simplistic but honestly all I really needed at the time. upon visiting a new blog friend I heard about GIMP…I downloaded it but I think it will take me awhile to familiarize myself with it…I was considering Photoshop but I think that might be a bit too complicated for me right now?
happy new year!
I wondered what I should post for my first in 2013…I decided on a photo of two of the views I love most…a sunset on lake nipissing. This was taken a few years ago…
partially frozen…lake nipissing
this photo is from a few weeks ago…just before we had the 10 inches of snow, I haven’t been able to get any new shots at the access as the snow plows have pushed up mountains of snow, blocking my path..have to say I’m past climbing up mountains of snow!
