Another photo taken while driving with my iPhone…of course I wasn’t driving.  I enjoy this type of landscape, barren but every once in a while something cool pops up!

rolling…

On the drive to and from Florida one of the areas I enjoy driving through is around Lexington, Kentucky.   I love the farms/ranches and the rolling hills in that area of the state.  Even on a dreary day it is lovely to see…

all in a row…

If you know me at all you know I love trees, especially “naked trees”…without leaves of course!   This was taken while driving on the way home from Florida…fyi…I wasn’t driving!   A crisp cold morning, brrrr.  There is a bit of dirty windshield showing up on the right hand side but I really liked this so excuse the dirt!

You can’t tell from the photo but this little fellow was looking for lunch in the city, with this property butting up to a four lane highway.

laying down…

this particular Bougainvillea tree is on the property of the condo we rented in Key West this year.   It has grown terribly out of shape, completely bending over, and yet it continues to thrive.   As you can see it is lifting the interlocking brick as it grows.   tree.key.west.2015t to thrive.

where is spring?

How has your spring been so far?  Ours hasn’t arrived yet…check out our snow banks!   As I am writing this it is snowing, in the morning the temperature is supposed to be -26F or -14C with the wind chill!   …could be worse right?

bowing to the ground…

I never get tired of looking at these trees…they amaze me, their root system must reach a great distance.  We have very strong winds in this area and I’m always expecting to drive by and find one or more of these old fellows toppled over.  This photo was taken a few weeks before Christmas…

more sunsets…

It is interesting how I’ve not seen the sunset for months and recently I’ve been able to capture it three times..awesome!   This one wasn’t as intense as some, but then it was just setting, I find the colors more vibrant a short while after the setting…didn’t stay around to see what happened that night as I wasn’t dressed warm enough!

sunset.2. dec.20.2014This photo was taken a few weeks ago right after a warmers spell…you can see the ridges of ice that built up due to the winds and then colder temperatures…makes for dangerous snowmobiling and walking…

hard to believe…

This has been a most unusual December for me…Christmas arrived in the blink of an eye!   Enjoy your time regardless of how or if you celebrate.    By the way, it is raining again and is supposed to continue through tomorrow…snow will be gone again!

sunset anyone…

Took this photo with my iPhone 6 last night…began using the phone Friday evening so don’t know what I think about it yet…made sure I found a solid clip on case as I have a tendency to drop my phone.   One shattered screen is enough!   As you can see we have snow again…it is cold today so it just might stay for a while this time!

on my way home…

I had lunch with my daughter this afternoon and when done we went to do a bit of Christmas shopping for Paige, my grand-baby…on the way home this is what I was fortunate enough to see!

Both these photos were taken while driving to Sudbury, (not me of course) 1.5 hrs west of North Bay…definitly a contrast between the two views!

When I came out of a building here is what I found…this fellow was 25 ft at the most away from me and definitly not afraid!

He was munching on the Crab-apples at the base of the tree, scroll down!

another short roadtrip…

Yesterday, my son, daughter-in-law and my beautiful granddaughter took a short road trip south to Barrie…it is about 2.5 hrs away…always a nice drive but I realized there isn’t as many interesting things for me to take photos of…unless we stop that is and we don’t have time for that.   Someday I’m going to have to make a point of driving just to stop and take photos.     I don’t know the name of this body of water, but thought it deserved a photo.

perfect spot…

Monday was a hot, humid, hazy day, which you can see in the distance of the  photo…but as I drove past the waterfront I decided to stop…saw this…perfect spot to sit, relax, and read a book!

Kentucky landscape…

this was taken on the drive home from Florida in 2013, when I began taking photos from the vehicle as we were driving…I’ve always been impressed with the Kentucky landscape, with the rolling hills, fences and gnarly looking trees.

touches of green…

gray.touch.green.2014.....

simplistic I know, but I really liked how the evergreen trees popped through what appears to be a tangled mess of white trees…

I know some are Birch trees, but don’t know what the rest are, they almost look like they are dead or dying.

old and gray…

as always, while driving somewhere I bring my camera and snap photos as we drive along…here is a great old barn/shed!

red barns…

In November I went to Sudbury with my son and his wife and of course along the way I took photos from the moving vehicle…so keep in mind all these have been taken from a moving vehicle…   Some of you will know I have a thing for old buildings, barns, vehicles, etc., when I  looked over these photos I realized I’d captured a few red barns…you can read here  http://home.howstuffworks.com/question635.htm  why barns were painted red originally and why the tradition continues in some cases.   red.barn.2014

To you and yours…

frostly.NBFM.xmas.greetings.62013

This was taken a couple of weeks ago when we had the hoar frost morning, I’ve since learned that is what it is called…”a grayish-white crystalline deposit of frozen water vapor formed in clear still weather on vegetation, fences, etc.”   Today it was much warmer -5C or 23F and we now have wet slushy roads.  I’ll take a few photos to show you the difference a day can make in the appearance!

selective cutting…

This post is all about trees…I love trees, they make the neighborhoods  colorful, they attract birds, provide shade, in some cases privacy, short ones tall ones, I love the look of trees, especially in the fall when the leaves have dropped.  The neighborhoods with out trees look rather barren to me…having said that I do understand the logic in pruning, cutting back large branches or even cutting the tree down when necessary.   The reason I’m talking about this is North Bay Hydro, our local hydro company, pays a local company in town to do this so no branches are closer than 9 meters (29.5ft) to a hydro line…my surrounding neighborhood was chosen this fall to have this done…while I understand the logic of why it must be done, it saddens me to see how spindly some of the trees now look.   Many of the large stately deciduous trees are fine as only a few branches have been taken but for some trees, in particular the coniferous trees, the whole side facing the wire is gone!  The clump of trees in the center of this photo looks fine…it is large enough to handle a few limbs cut, but check out the tree to the right…

selective.cutting.2a.2013on the tree below, all the branches below the wire are in tact, so it is much like the tree on the right above…half a tree from the wire up!
selective.cutting.4.2013it is difficult to tell in the tree below, but when the leaves are in full bloom they will be to the left of the cutting, the other branches are from another tree…
selective.cutting.5.2013again, all the branches are gone on the one side of the tree…

Trout Lake…

For those of you who don’t know North Bay is fortunate to be surrounded by two awesome lakes…Lake Nipissing and Trout Lake…the latter is the much smaller lake of the two, (7 miles long 2miles wide)approximately 4 miles east of Lake Nipissing, but beautiful none the less.   Trout Lake is the source of North Bay’s drinking water…
This photo was taken of the shoreline of Trout Lake, to show the fall colors.

fall has arrived…

the trees are changing color very quickly so I decided to go for a bit of a drive to get a few photos yesterday…as you can see it was a dull dreary day…I’m hoping to go again tomorrow…I love the vibrant colors…I just don’t  like what comes after fall!fall.colors.cemetary.road.c..2013

bird on a lamp post…

I was trying to take a photo of a  sunrise through the trees when I spotted this fellow…the sunrise isn’t worth posting, but I thought this the bird would be.   I don’t usually do this kind of thing to my photos but felt this photo was worthy…black & white and then in Picasa tried Holga-ish…
